Diversity tuner integrates two signal paths in tiny package

Sunnyvale, Calif.—Maxim Integrated Products' diversity tuner for ISDB-T and DVB-T automotive applications integrates two high-performance signal paths that operate from a single fractional-N synthesizer.

The MAX2135 is packaged in a small, 7mm x 7mm TQFN and features a very low, 3.8dB (typ) UHF noise figure. It consumes 330mW when both signal paths are active and 200mW when only one path is active. Combining a small footprint with low power consumption and low noise, the MAX2135 is well-suited for automotive in-dash navigation and entertainment systems.

The MAX2135 receives signals in three bands: VHF-low, VHF-III, and UHF. Furthermore, on-chip low-pass filters accommodate 4, 6, 7, and 8MHz signal bandwidths, making it well-suited for receiving Japan's ISDB-T and Europe's DVB-T broadcasts. The output of each signal path is a 4MHz, low-IF signal that interfaces to most demodulator ICs. Additional features that reduce the external BOM price include on-chip tracking filters, a reference oscillator, and LNAs. The MAX2135 is available in a small, 7mm x 7mm, 56-pin TQFN package, and is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range.
