Netanya, Israel—Mobile TV chipmaker Siano Mobile Silicon launched its second-generation antenna-chip product, the SMS8022, that is aimed at helping drive mass adoption of mobile digital TV (MDTV) on mobile phones, portable multimedia players, notebooks, UMPCs and accessory cards.

The SMS8022 was jointly developed between Siano and discrete electronic component vendor Vishay LLC.

The SMS8022 increases MDTV reception in deep indoor locations. The SMS8022 miniature omni-directional antenna chip measures 35mm x 5mm x 1mm, eliminating the need for long telescopic external antennas.

The SMS8022 covers the entire UHF spectrum, from 470 to 870 MHz, and supports digital TV technologies such as DVB-T, DVB-H, ISDB-T, FLO, and ATSC. Compared with its predecessor chip (SMS8021), the SMS8022 offers improved performance of more than 3dB.

The SMS8022 can be attached to any PCB using common SMT assembly technologies. It complies with industry specifications MBRAI 2.0 and NORDIG.

Siano will be demonstrating the SMS8022 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, 11th-14th February 2008, at hospitality suite (4.5 HS_44 Hall 4).
