NETANYA, Israel Pure-play foundry Jazz Semiconductor (Newport Beach, Calif.) is trying to convince wireless companies from Israel to use its foundry services, according to Michael Rome, senior sales manager for Europe at Jazz.
Jazz Semiconductor foundry services are focused on analog-intensive mixed-signal CMOS processes. The company offers a product portfolio including RF CMOS, SiGe, SiGe BiCMOS and high Voltage CMOS.
In 2006, Acquicor Technology Inc., the ''blank check'' equity firm run by three former executives from Apple Computer Inc., acquired Jazz Semiconductor for $260 million in cash.
However, in February , the company said that it has initiated a review of ''strategic alternatives to enhance stockholder value.'' To assist the company, the board retained UBS Securities LLC as its financial adviser.
Rome told EETimes Europe that the company's business in Israel is now valued at several millions of dollars, and that the foundry is stepping up its efforts in silicon germanium technologies.
The SiGe process is available on its 0.35-micron, 0.18-micron, 0.13-micron analog technology, and has been optimized for high-frequency wireless communications and high-speed networking products.
"We are offering a special value for wireless companies," Rome added. "In regard to Israeli companies, our main competitor is IBM, rather than the Israel-based foundry Tower Semiconductor."
